A quick doll of Nerdanel looking sad, which would be quite normal if your seven sons have left Valinor. Any mother would be upset after that. Anyway, she's wearing a more formal outfit as I don't think this would be perfect for sculpting statues in. It's still more practical than most Elven dresses once you lose the overdress-thing and shawl. Also, I imagine the Noldor wearing intricately embroidered dresses. Compared to an unfinished Noldorin costume design I've lying around, Nerdanel's dress is quite subdued The brooch that holds the overdress-thing is a bit inspired by a beautiful cameo found in one of the local tumuli. And the (badly done) background is supposed to portray Tirion and the Mindon Eldaliéva.
(I know the arms look weird, but I just couldn't get them to look right and got tired of working on them)
Yes, he was beyond arrogant and not only got himself, but most of their sons killed as well. I bet she wouldn't be very happy if she ever saw his face again...
I actually read a fanfic where she knew when he entered the Halls but she didn't weep for him for her heart had long since grown cold towards him, but she wept for her sons who were still bound to the damn curse. Fëanor didn't even release them from it, he made them swear to keep it!!! Even when he knew the Elves couldn't ever defeat Morgoth!!!
I think that fanfic would be rather accurate. It would be so weird if she'd still weep for him, I actually imagine she would be quite furious at him XD Her sons... that's a wholly different matter. It's kinda sad that there is no real happy ending to that story. She deserved to be reunited with her beloved sons, but that stupid Oath made that impossible.
Indeed, and Maglor's fate is the saddest, he wanted to go back on the Oath, but Maedhros ( who unfortunately was fiercly loyal to his father) wouldn't let him. And in the end, he was left wandering the shores of the world, forever singing his laments until The End...
Maglor's story was always such a sad one. It's kinda disheartening to see how the life of an entire family was ruined because of a father's stubbornness and pride. If it weren't for Fëanor's foolishness, Middle Earth would have been such a different place :/
