Last year I started with a Valar series. However, when I got to Ulmo, I was forced to quit it as he didn't work out at all. A few weeks ago, I got a better vision of him in doll form, so I did a bit of research and tried again. He's based of some descriptions I found in Tolkien's works and I tried to stay clear from the Poseidon look. I never imagined Ulmo having a beard, nor holding a trident. So I gave him one of his Ulumúri instead.

I'm still not too happy with the result, but he isn't too bad. I liked the hair, but unfortunately the new pose covers it and now it looks pretty weird XD The waves around him are probably the best I've ever done though ^^

Thank you :D It didn't take as long as some of my other dolls, just the regular amount of time I spend on a doll XD The colours were inspired by the sea and descriptions of him, it took me a while to get them to work ^^

.... wows!!!

He's really dramatic, and I think, looking at the other dolls in your valar series he's my fav :) The waves are so brilliantly done & what you can see of his hair is really good to!!! I never saw him with a beard either, the whole "Tritan" image never seemed to make much sense to me :)

He's my current fav of that series too (especially since the others are over a year old XD). I guess the Triton image doesn't seem to fit because it's often directly taken from Greek mythology, while I don't remember Tolkien taking something from those myths without making big changes to it :)

Yeah thats what always confused me a bit, Tolkien liked his Nordic myths and Triton/.posiedon/ Neptune all seemed too obvious and cliche.

oh and I forgot to mention I love the Blue colour of his tunic :aww:

I guess some people choose to work with that stereotype because that's the image they know best, even though it doesn't always work together with Tolkien's mythology :/

Thank you ^^ It was inspired by a picture of the sea, though I messed around with it quite a lot XD
